This week and Plantar Fasciitis

As usual, this week's workouts took place in my hotel room. The big bonus was the fact that I was upgraded to a suite, so I had a ton of space! I could shuffle from side to side, jog around the room, etc. It was great! I did Kenpo X by the book on one of the days because I wanted the stress relief of punching the air! ;) I made it out for a run too, although it POURED on me after 15 minutes. I just ran inside and did some lunges, squats, pushups, etc. with jumping jacks and jump squats and stuff mixed in.

I've decided that I will be buying myself P90X+ within the next couple weeks. I'm quite excited! I have 5 weeks left of my internship and then it's back to grad school for one more year. I want to have + for my workouts during school. That starts August 24. I can't wait! The internship is a great experience, but traveling is not good for my life! I'm pretty sure I'm meant to be at home, as much as possible. I won't mind traveling for work sometimes, but I really miss cooking my own food and being home at night.

My other topic for the day is plantar fasciitis. I have an itty bitty case of it,
and I'm working on alleviating that. For those who don't know
what it is, there's tons of info out there on webmd and such websites. Essentially the arch of my left foot gets sore (I have pretty high arches). Some people get heel pain, but that hasn't happened to me just yet. I'm trying to stretch my foot and achilles and calves a lot more because that's supposed to help. I got some great new (very supportive) running shoes too, so that should help. If anyone has plantar fasciitis advice for me though, let me know! I'm doing my towel stretches, plus extra calf stretches, and calf stretches with a slightly bent knee so it focuses more on the achilles. Other than that, I'm not sure what to do except get orthotics which I'm not prepared to pay for right now!

Today's workout is going to be a long walk to the store and back. The weather is beautiful! I'll do some yoga when I get back to stretch my legs out, and that's about it! Have a wonderful week!

Time is flying by!

I've been on the road now for 4 weeks... my internship is only 10 weeks long, so I'll be back to grad school life soon. I've had some triumphs and some difficulties! The past two weeks, I've only gotten in two workouts per week on the road. On the other hand, I have been commuting on foot in NYC with my laptop and sometimes luggage, so I've gotten in some nice incidental exercise as well. I still pack my resistance band and my P90X book for some inspiration. It's worked out well! I also fit in a run last weekend, so I'm getting there. It's crazy how a life change like this can throw you off kilter.

Food is definitely a challenge too! I eat ALL of my meals out because I'm staying in hotels. Here's what I've come up with so far to keep me in check:

Starbucks skinny vanilla latte and a spinach egg wrap for breakfast - not perfect but keeps my calories for breakfast around 400, and I get some calcium and protein.

A salad from a local deli for lunch - I can get a whole bowl of lettuce, and I put 6 toppings on it. I usually go for chicken, maybe some avocado, and the rest veggies. Plus some balsamic vinaigrette as dressing

Dinner is a crap shoot! I've done a lot of sushi because I trust it. I can even get it with brown rice in NYC. We've had some team dinners out though, so I've definitely had some challenges there. All in all though I'm learning and doing my best. I just have to keep trying! I've been journaling my food and it's definitely not to the point it should be but I'm maintaining my weight. So that's good!

Ummmm, can't wait to get me Shaun T's Insanity!

A traveler's workout

So I started up my summer internship two weeks ago, and it has been a challenge to figure out what that means for workouts. The good news is that I did well this week! I worked out 3 mornings in my hotel room before work. Day 1 I made up my own little circuit workout using my bands and some of my favorite P90X moves. I did band work plus some plyo stuff to keep my heart rate up! The next day I did my own combined plyo/kenpo workout. The final day I actually did Slim in 6. I bought those years ago, and they are definitely good travelers. It was REALLY easy though! Wow, did P90X shape me up! I really, really miss it! I think I'm going to continue my off the cuff workouts for the summer using my favorite P90X moves, and then I'll get going on plus or insanity this fall. For now, I'm happy I've found something I can do when I travel!

Real life begins...

I am not officially done with P90X, and I'm trying to figure out what's next! This week is my first week of my summer internship, and I'm in Chicago for training. This one will be tough! We're going to be working really long days, so I'm not quite sure what I'll be doing. Last night, we went indoor rockclimbing for team building. Let me just say, goooooooooo P90X! Part of me was afraid of heights, so I only went a few stories up. I did however have no issue getting myself up the wall. AND, I'm not sore today! Most people tend to grip too hard with their hands and they get really sore forearms. You're supposed to use your legs as much as possible though because it is much easier to climb that way. I actually used my triceps some! Like I literally grabbed a hold of part of the wall and pushed myself up with my triceps. I was definitely proud of my increased strength!

Tonight we're going bowling, which is not really a workout. I'm going to try to do something in my room tomorrow combining some plyo stuff with some pushups, crunches, etc. The bad thing about the week is that I am being given food, so I have to choose wisely. I did have pizza yesterday, but for the rest of the meals I did fine. Some yogurt and fruit for breakfast, salad for lunch, etc. We'll see what today brings!

Ummmm, can I say again that I'm excited for Shaun T's Insanity?!?!?

2 more days...

I'm really excited to be wrapping up! I can definitely tell a difference over the past 90 (plus) days. I'm also really excited to try something new for a little while. I'll keep track of that as well until I move back in for another phase of P90X. I've got my eye on Shaun T's Insanity too, so maybe that will be my fall workout before the X starts again!

Thanks for following my journey along the way!

Final Week before Recovery!

I cannot believe this is almost over! I took more than 90 days to do it but that's okay! I took a break in the middle but picked back up where I left off. Woo hoo! I'm looking forward to some summer workouts and I'll start up another round this fall.

On another note, I tried Legs and Back at the gym and I wasn't as into that! There wasn't enough room for some of the lunge exercises, so I wasn't too pleased. I still burned 664 calories, but I think that one would've been better at home.

On still another note, a couple of you have asked if I'm going to become a coach. Interesting question.... I haven't really thought of it! I'll have to look into the details and see if it's something I'd like to do. I do love beachbody products, so that's a plus. I'd really like to try Shaun T's Insanity when it comes out too! That's sort of a side note... We shall see! For now I'll just finished up Round 1 of P90X!

Workout at the Gym

I had an awesome workout today!  I took my book over to the gym at school and used their equipment for Arms and Shoulders.  It was great!  I only have up to 8 pound weights at home, so it was really nice to kick it up a notch at the gym.  I did ARX there as well and finished up with a 20 minute jog.  Love it!  It made me realize how much I miss working out at a gym sometimes.  I'm glad I have the option to do both!  I have two more weeks until my internship starts, and I have a feeling that I'll utilize hotel gyms here and there to do my workouts.  I think I workout a bit harder in public!  Like people actually care what I'm doing or something!

All in all, an excellent workout!  I burned over 1100 calories!  Woo hoo!

Spending the weekend in NYC... be back next week!
